Dragonstar = Star Wars + Dragonbane, a draft
A downloadable game
WHAT IS THIS?
A labor of love. A fever dream. A practice in design.
As true as death and taxes, if there's an RPG of any kind, someone will try to use it to play Star Wars. In a desperate need of distraction during a very strange winter break in 2025, such was the case with Dragonbane and I. This is the result. It won't make much sense if you don't have the Dragonbane core rules and, heck, maybe even if you do. My intention was to hew as close as possible to the original Star Wars d6 classic from West End Games, which ended up being suprrisingly difficult in some ways and surprisingly easy in others.
This is just me, being a fan, making some very intense house rules, probably playing a one shot with some friends before putting it away and forgetting about it entirely before retreating back to the West End games yet again.
If something feels unfinished, it's probably because there's not meant to be anything there -- the main rules cover it or something like it already. Or maybe it's just unfinished.
WHAT YOU MIGHT LIKE
- Looking for ways to make 6 ATTRIBUTES that aren't just Con, Agl, Str, Int, Wis, Cha. What would a design space took like for a world based more on technology than medieval weapons?
- Mapping new INNATE ABILITIES around Star Wars aliens - could they work as fantasy kin as well?
- Same with new HEROIC ABILITIES, for professions that match our space opera setting. Don't they match familiar fantasy tropes, too?
- Instead of a fear table, why not a BALANCE table, where fear, anger, and hatred are also natural responses?
- Jedi powers are like spells, aren't they? Except there's just one path. Unless you try the dark side.
- Speaking of, there's a Dark Side track here. Perhaps the makings of a CORRUPTION mechanic?
- Trying to playtest a new way to treat money, gear and resources. Why not play around with just using the BARGAIN skill for everything?
- And of course there's my approach to SPACE COMBAT, which essentially means that starships are a weapon in a combat like any other fight scene. Just really big weapons that you fly around inside. And they have their own abilities, called ships' instruments.
To be clear, this is all very very homebrew. If you happen to playtest anything, please let me know how it goes! If/when I can, perhaps I might even update to 2.0 with your help.
May the Source be with us all!

Love this concept ๐. Is there supposed to be a download link?
